Rag Rug ReStyled

It’s Thrift Store Finds this week at Mixology Crafts – wait and see what we have in store for you our fabulous readers!

Cyndi of Lovely Lula Here. While combing my local thrift store I found a small washed out rag rug and rag rugs always  make me think of my husband’s Grandmother who past not too long ago. We have several amazing rag rugs she made by hand, that I look at all the time.

For the rugs restyling, I started by dyeing it an aqua blueish green. My husbands Grandmother worked in a bakery as a doughnut maker. So I decided to use a couple of different pieces of fat quarters I had on hand to cut fabric appliques on the Cricut. I backed the fabric first with heat and bond so they would cut cleanly on the Cricut. I used the Sweet Treats Cartridge for the doughnuts and the Everyday Pop-Up Cards Cartridge for the coffee mug. I ironed the appliques on and then sewed the rug into a pillow shape and stuffed it with a pillow form I also grabbed at the thrift store. Sweet and simple with a personal story. Happy thrifting and Happy Grand Parents Day on September 11.

Happy crafting xoxo Cyndi aka Lovely Lula Follow me on Twitter I am Lab5.
