Witches and Broom Sticks

Halloween is quickly approaching, so I thought I would share another project for all of those school parties that are coming up. We are going to use lollipop sticks and give them a new look. Our boys have both signed up for cupcakes for their Halloween party. We have decided to make witches hats and broom sticks to decorate our cupcakes.

They loved these and they are pretty quick and easy to make. You just need the Cricut Essentials cartridge, raffia, lollipop sticks, black cardstock, tape, and dimensional glue dots.

Here are the instructions.

1. Cut 2 circles using the cricut essentials cartridge to 2.5″ and 2″.

2. Cut the 2.5″ circle in half, then roll it like a cone. Use tape to keep it in place.

3. Put a dimensional glue dot at the end of a lollipop stick and then stick it in the cone.

4. Cut a whole in the center of the 2″ circle. I used the We R Memory Keepers Crocodile Punch.

5. Tape it into place.

6. For the broom sticks, cut a small handful of raffia to about 3″. Take a longer piece of raffia to tie the three inch pieces around the lollipop stick like below.

7. Trim the raffia to the desired length.

This project was inspired by an etsy shop¬†so if you don’t have time to make it, you can always just buy it. Well I hope you enjoyed the project and have a great weekend!

Rag Rug ReStyled

It’s Thrift Store Finds this week at Mixology Crafts – wait and see what we have in store for you our fabulous readers!

Cyndi of Lovely Lula Here. While combing my local thrift store I found a small washed out rag rug and rag rugs always¬† make me think of my husband’s Grandmother who past not too long ago. We have several amazing rag rugs she made by hand, that I look at all the time.

For the rugs restyling, I started by dyeing it an aqua blueish green. My husbands Grandmother worked in a bakery as a doughnut maker. So I decided to use a couple of different pieces of fat quarters I had on hand to cut fabric appliques on the Cricut. I backed the fabric first with heat and bond so they would cut cleanly on the Cricut. I used the Sweet Treats Cartridge for the doughnuts and the Everyday Pop-Up Cards Cartridge for the coffee mug. I ironed the appliques on and then sewed the rug into a pillow shape and stuffed it with a pillow form I also grabbed at the thrift store. Sweet and simple with a personal story. Happy thrifting and Happy Grand Parents Day on September 11.

Summer Shells

Cyndi of Lovely Lula Here. I am just back from a wonderful Summer vacation, road tripping up the coast of California. At every beach my daughter collected shells. Now back home I thought “okay so what do I do with the shells now?” I remembered I still had an Ester basket around that I had been meaning to re-purpose. So I grabbed the basket and spray painted it aqua blue, and then wrapped it with a band of lawn chair webbing. I cut shells and the phrase “Sun, Sand, Sea” out of sand colored paper using my Cricut and the Creative Memories Travelers Cartridge*. I attached the paper to the front of the basket, loaded in the shells and boom – a perfect Summer memory basket.
